A number of implementations of either the runtime library or your OS may detect this situation in some conditions and terminate the program. I reproduce the issue today, i'don't know yet if it's related: You dont need to bypass gccs stack smashing detection. This is stack smashing, and undefined behavior.

Note that if I remove the persistence directory, 'myclientid-localhost-1883', then the app runs fine.
